A reporting process that previously took two employees seven days to complete can now be handled by one person in just 20 minutes, following the development of an artificial intelligence-enabled web application by PUNCH Media Foundation.
The application, known as the PMF Story Log and Content Analytics, was developed on October 20, 2026, as an offshoot of an AI workshop organised by the leadership of the foundation to equip staff with practical skills for improving workplace efficiency through technology.
Designed to simplify programme reporting, the application automates the compilation of published stories, tracks page views, monitors the time readers spend on stories and performs other related reporting tasks that previously required extensive manual effort.
Beyond data collection, the application can generate periodic performance reports for PUNCH HealthWise, a project of PUNCH Nigeria Limited dedicated to improving public awareness and understanding of health and development issues in Nigeria. These reports provide management with valuable insights into content performance, audience engagement and areas requiring improvement.
Speaking on the innovation, the developer of the application and a member of the PMF team, Mr Shamsudeen Adesina, said the solution had significantly reduced the time and human effort required to prepare programme reports.
According to him, a process that previously required two employees working for about seven days can now be completed in approximately 20 minutes, with only one person needed to review the output for accuracy and consistency.
He explained that the application was developed to address the challenges associated with manually gathering and analysing large volumes of content performance data.
The Head of Finance and Administration at PMF, Mr Gbenga Bambeke, who provided oversight and guidance during the application’s development, described its AI-powered capabilities as one of its most remarkable features.
Bambeke noted that the application acts like AI agents designed to carry out its various functions, making it possible to automate several stages of the reporting process with minimal human intervention.
The innovation also demonstrates how AI can be applied beyond content generation to address practical operational challenges within media and development organisations.
For PMF, the application represents a significant step towards making programme reporting faster, more efficient and better suited to supporting evidence-based management decisions.
It also highlights the practical outcomes of the foundation’s investment in staff capacity development, showing how an internal AI training initiative can translate into a functional solution to everyday workplace challenges.
